Update: Thank you for allowing me to speak about my upcoming project Music in Exile. With the money we raised, we were able to purchase plane tickets, equipment, and some accommodation in Kurdistan. Sasha and I will be arriving Sunday October 16. With assistance from numerous NGOs on the ground, we will be visiting 10 camps for displaced Syrians and Iraqis. This fall, Alex Ebsary will travel to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on behalf of Music in Exile, an effort to record Iraqi and Syrian musicians displaced by sectarian violence. The recordings will be hosted on an interactive website where visitors will be able to listen to music, see photographs, and read stories about each artist’s life.
