What to Expect in Worship
From September through early June, when we have two services, the services are similar but not identical. They both have an Invocation, traditional hymns, Prayer of Confession, Assurance of Forgiveness, Passing of the Peace, Prayer for Illumination, a Sermon, Scripture Reading, Prayers of the People, Offering (visitors are not expected to contribute), Doxology, Benediction and Postlude. The latter service often has such additions such as baptisms, choral anthems, children’s choir, or commissionings, etc.
Childcare is available for infants through 3-year-olds during both worship services. For older children, Sunday School is available on many Sundays during the school year.
Parking and Building Access
The entrance to the church is right off of N. Forest Rd. We have a few handicap parking spots in the front of the main entrance. Access to the building on either side is fully handicap accessible. There is no street parking; there is ample parking in the parking lot.
Hymn books can be found in the pews. In each worship service we sing several hymns, which are listed in the bulletin, which the ushers hand out when you come in. Don’t be shy about singing—we are called to “make a joyful noise”!
Stand, sit or kneel?
Generally, the congregation stands while singing hymns and at some other times (denoted in the bulletin with an asterisk). We sit during other times, such as when the choir sings. Of course, those who are unable to stand do not need to feel obligated to stand!
The pastor delivers a sermon each week that takes inspiration from one or more Scripture readings.
Passing the Peace
At a certain point in the service, everyone greets each other with handshakes, saying “Peace be with you,” “The peace of the Lord be with you,” or just “Peace.” There is no right or wrong way to say it.
At North we celebrate this sacrament generally once a month. Everyone is invited to this holy feast, regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender, denomination, etc.
The Adult Choir sings at the second service. The Children’s & Youth Choir usually sings at the second service at certain times during the year; they also present a wonderful Christmas pageant in December. InerG Choir is an eclectic group that sings once a month at the second service.
Something for Everyone
Whether you’re a family of one or many, there are many ways you to get involved here.
