What to Expect in Worship
From September through early June we have one service at 10:15 a.m. Mid-June through early September service begins at 9:30 a.m. Regular services include an invocation, traditional hymns, Prayer of Confession, Assurance of Forgiveness, Passing of the Peace, a sermon, scripture reading, Prayers of the People, offering (visitors are not expected to contribute), Doxology, Benediction and Postlude, and occasionally additions such as baptisms, choral anthems, children’s choir, commissioning, etc.
Childcare is available for infants through 4 years old during the worship service. For older children, Sunday School is available on many Sundays during the school year.
Parking and Building Access
The entrance to the church is right off of N. Forest Rd. We have a few handicap parking spots in the front of the main entrance. Access to the building on either side is fully handicap accessible. There is no street parking; there is ample parking in the parking lot.
Hymns
Hymn books can be found in the pews. In each worship service we sing several hymns, which are listed in the bulletin that the ushers hand out when you come in. Don’t be shy about singing—we are called to “make a joyful noise”!
Stand, sit or kneel?
Generally, the congregation stands while singing hymns and at other times denoted in the bulletin with an asterisk. We sit during other times, such as when the choir sings. Of course, if you are more comfortable staying seated, do not need feel obligated to stand!
Sermon
The pastor delivers a sermon each week that takes inspiration from one or more Scripture readings.
Passing the Peace
At a certain point in the service, everyone greets each other with handshakes, saying “Peace be with you,” “The peace of the Lord be with you,” or just “Peace.” There is no right or wrong way to say it.
Holy Communion
At North we celebrate this sacrament generally once a month. Everyone is invited to this holy feast, regardless of age or denomination.
The Adult Choir sings during the service. The Children’s & Youth Choir sings at certain times during the year; they also present a wonderful Christmas pageant in December. InerG Choir is an eclectic group of all ages that generally sings one Sunday of the month.
Something for Everyone
Whether you’re a family of one or many, there are many ways you to get involved here.
