Celebrating Our Common Heritage: Fourth annual Abraham’s Walk

We are blessed in Williamsville and Amherst to be part of a richly diverse religious community. Many of us at North Church have shared worship and mission efforts with our Jewish neighbors, but there have been few opportunities to do the same with our Muslim friends. In a world rife with much hostility between religious groups, it is crucial that we find ways to share fellowship and dialog with people of other faiths. A 5-mile walk as a celebration of our common heritage in the faith of Abraham is a good way to do that.

Please join us for the 4th annual Abraham’s Walk/Tent of Abraham on Thursday, August 2, as we partner with Westminster Presbyterian Church, Congregation Shir Shalom (formerly Temple Beth Am), Network of Religious Communities, the Muslim Public Affairs Council-WNY, and the Islamic Society of Niagara Frontier to share in the breaking of the daily fast at sunset as part of the Ramadan observance.

The 5-mile walk begins at North Church at 5pm, continues to Congregation Shir Shalom, where we’ll meet others, and continues to the Muslim Community Center at 745 Heim Rd., where we will gather for a meal at 8:38pm. Transportation will be provided back to the church after dinner.

Part of the observance of Ramadan—a month of fasting during daylight hours—includes care for the poor. Participants of the walk are invited to bring non-perishable food items and cash donations to be distributed through the Food Pantry of WNY and Vive la Casa. (See complete details on flyer posted in narthex.)

Sign up for the event at online or by calling the church office at 716-632-1330 by July 26. If you aren’t up to a 5-mile hike, you may, of course, join us for dinner.
