Marty knew at an early age she was going to find a way to combine her musical skills and her love of children. She fulfilled her dream by earning a degree in music education with a major in voice from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.
Shortly after graduation Marty began her career by teaching elementary vocal music in the public schools for ten years and directing a children’s choir in her church. In 1981 Marty moved to Buffalo and joined North Presbyterian Church where she immediately put her musical talents to work. In 1985 she took over directorship of the Children’s Choir and in 2002 also assumed responsibility for the Youth Choir.
A major reason the church’s music program for children and youth has been so successful over the years is due to Marty’s hard work. In addition to the Choirs she directs, Marty also plays a major part in producing the children’s annual Christmas pageant and overseeing the music program for the summer Bible school each year. When Marty isn’t helping the children and youth she can be found participating in the adult choir, playing the bells, or leading the congregation in the gathering songs before the start of worship service on Sunday mornings. The Congregation is indeed fortunate that Marty has chosen to exercise her considerable musical talents at North Presbyterian Church.
