International Peacemaker Visit

Thank you to everyone who joined us last evening to hear international peacemaker Thang Van Lian from Myanmar, who is traveling in WNY as part of the PC(USA)’s International Peacemaker Visit.

The International Peacemaker’s work supports a Matthew 25 Church in hunger ministries and welcome. Myanmar has been known as a country embedded in centuries of ethnic conflicts and chaos. Rev. Van Lian will talk about the Rohingya crisis, the current civil war on ethnic minority groups, the silence of the Myanmar churches, and what a faithful response of Christians and the Christian church might look like. Also, he will share the current peace, justice, and development work of the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar. His presentation is titled Escalate Peace WNY.

Thang Van Lian has been pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar for almost 20 years and is a doctoral student at Columbia Theological Seminary. He grew up in a poor and rural village, experiencing significant challenges, racial and religious discrimination, and life-threatening situations.
