It is not necessary to travel far to find children in need. They are often in our own neighborhoods. The Town of Amherst Warm Clothing Project for Children in Need program has been operating for 29 years. Last year they provided 294 local children with appropriate winter clothing. School social workers, counselors, teachers and nurses refer those receiving items.
How can you help?
- Contact Mrs. Kathy Mobarak-Miller by November 10
Town of Amherst Youth & Rec. Dept. 631-7132 ext. 7523 or email kmobmiller@amherst.ny.us - You will receive information on a child in need: gender, size and needs (most needs are winter jackets, school clothes, pajamas and winter boots)
- Return items by December 1 to:
Town of Amherst Youth & Rec. Dept.
1615 Amherst Manor Drive (2nd floor)
Williamsville 14221
If you wish to include additional items for the child/youth such as a book or toy, be assured that the child will receive the additional items.
If you are unable to shop, you can still help by sending a contribution; a group of volunteers will do the shopping. (Checks made to NPC should have Warm Clothing Project in the note line.)
Know that you are helping your neighbor and it will be greatly appreciated by the children, their families and the schools.
