Taizé is an ecumenical, intentional community founded in 1940, in Taizé, France. From its beginning, the community has had a twofold intention: to seek communion with God through personal prayer and the beauty of community prayer, and also to be a leaven of peace and trust in the midst of humanity. North Church looks forward to having three Taizé worship services: Sunday, November 29, at 4:00 p.m.; Sunday, December 6, at 4:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 13, at 4:00 p.m. (which is the Service of Peace, Hope and Light).
Today, the Taizé community is made up of more than a hundred brothers, Catholics and from various Protestant backgrounds, coming from around 30 nations, including two communities of sisters. Every service includes these three ingredients: meditative music, as a way of listening to God; words of prayer; and periods of silence.
