Opportunity of the Week: Habitat for Humanity

North Church has had a wonderful relationship with Habitat for Humanity’s Buffalo affiliate since the mid-80’s. Many men and women have had numerous experiences with this housing ministry as a result of North Church’s connection. Generations of confirmands have done service with First Saturday work days.

Here are volunteer opportunities:

  1. First Saturday. Each month we work at a rehab site on the first Saturday of that month. Jobs are voluntary and each person is matched up with a job equal to their experience and ability. New volunteers are always welcomed.
  2. Mid-Week Crew…. Men and Women over age 16 can work at sites on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday with other volunteers doing essentially the same tasks as a Saturday.  This is a good way to find your niche.
  3. Re-Store…… Habitat-Buffalo operates two Re-Stores where donated goods are sold for reasonable prices. Profits from these retail operations help the affiliate to buy materials for our housing ministry. Not only are your donations needed, but your hours of volunteer service will help these stores, one on Amherst St and one on South Park.
  4. Week long summer work project in July or August.
  5. Women Build 2012 can involve women of the congregation in many ways.  Meeting on January 19 at 7pm in Westminster Hall at North Church.
