Mission Project

Summer Mission Project 2013: Missions to the other side of the country

Objectives:

  • To partner with The Stewpot, a ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas (PCUSA)
  • To teach our young people about urban children’s ministry and relationships
  • To raise attention for the urban outreach ministries of churches in our own denomination.

Place:  Dallas, Texas. The Stewpot will provide us with dormitory accommodations.

Time:  Flying down on Sunday, June 30 and flying back Friday, July 6.

Age of Youth:  Any youth who will be at least 14 years old at the time of the trip.  For example, if any youth is currently 13 and their birthday comes before June 30, 2013, they will be eligible.
Please note that while it is our vision to include all 7th & 8th graders in our summer mission projects whenever possible, it unfortunately could not happen this year due to the Stewpot’s age regulations.  Please accept our apologies.

Adult Volunteers: We welcome (and need) any adults who will give up a week to join us for this incredible opportunity.  The cost for an adult to come along is negotiable (we recognize that the most important thing you are giving up is your time and your comfort-zone).  If interested please talk to Peter Martin or a member of the YMT.

Transportation:  All plane tickets were purchased by the YMT in one lump sum.

Cost:  $300 deposit for registration (includes plane ticket, food, and all other expenses).  Depending on participation in fundraisers up to $200 of it may be refunded.  For two or more siblings, the deposit is $500 and up to $300 of it can be refunded.
Note: If an any way this upfront deposit is a financial hardship, particularly when coupled with the $100 deposit for Triennium (youth are more than welcome to register for both events) please speak to Peter Martin or a member of the Youth Ministry Team.  Something can be arranged; we do not want this cost to stand in the way of anyone participating.

Registration Deadline: Registration is closed.  Please have your completed paperwork (Questionnaire, Covenant of Conduct & Photo Release Form) and $300 deposit (once again, if you have not made other arrangements for payment) turned into the Youth Ministry Team by then.

Tasks:  Primarily acting as junior counselors for the Stewpot’s summer outreach camp and also as servers in a local soup kitchen on July 4.

Commitment:

  • Participating in all the fundraisers – important info. about the fundraisers (rev. 3.13.13)
  • All registrants will be asked to participate in a day of team building exercises on a date still TBD, probably in May or early June.

Mission Project 2012:

A big thanks is in order for everyone who helped make this year’s mission project to Watertown, NY such a wonderful success. From June 24-June 30, 2012, the team served on two work sites during the day and bonded over fun & games at night. Enjoy the pictures and thanks for your prayers and support:
